Alan died on 27 January 2026, aged 89.

Alan, along with his family, moved to Birmingham in 1971 from York and quickly became involved in all aspects of ringing within the Guild.

He regularly rang at King’s Norton as well as becoming a member of the Birmingham Cathedral band and joined the Thursday evening peal band. He was also a member of the 12 Bell Striking Contest band, ringing in Birmingham’s first win at Southwark in 1977.

During his time in Birmingham he was also Master of the Guild.

Alan moved to Worcestershire in 1978 but continued his association with the St Martin’s Guild for the rest of his life.
